What's REALLY Next for Residential Real Estate? |
There is a lot of speculation about the real estate investment market right now. And a LOT of that speculation comes from people who might not know what they're talking about.
In this post on the BiggerPockets Forums, our very own Market Analyst Austin Wolff provides a data-driven perspective on where residential real estate is headed, cutting through the noise with professional analysis that investors can actually trust. |

Stocks are Dropping - Stick to Your Investment Plan |
The stock market is reacting to tariffs recently implemented by the new Administration. This is probably NOT news to you - it's been happening since last Thursday.
As the market started dropping, I was immediately reminded of the COVID drop, and a conversation I had with Brandon, The Mad FIentist, on Episode 119 of the BiggerPockets Money Podcast. He was talking about his investing experience in 2008 and the lessons he learned from mistakes made during that time and how he had created a plan for investing during that COVID drop, but that when it came time to implement it, he didn't stick to his plan, and missed an opportunity.
If you do not have an investing plan, now is NOT the time to make rash decisions. What is the end goal for your investments? Start there, and work backwards. We'll be discussing this in future episodes of the podcast in more detail. I just want to remind you to stay the course. |

Julie Rose is one of my favorite bloggers, and I had the opportunity to sit down and speak with her about her lifestyle choices.
She left a corporate job to travel the world. Instead of waiting until she was completely financially independent, she chose to work a little during her travels, generating enough income to cover her expenses (aka "Barista FI").
Her job now? Creating travel itineraries for people who want to travel like she did. (It's barely a job for her!)

In this week's Mindy (but no Carl) episode of Life After FIRE, I sit down with Mark Trautman from Mark's Money Mind to talk about how he is able to spend so freely in retirement.
(Longtime listeners will remember that Carl and I joined Ramit Sethi's I Will Teach You To Be Rich podcast in June 2023 to get advice for loosening our purse strings.)
Mark has a concept called "The Fun Bucket." where he pulls a set amount of money from his retirement accounts to freely spend on anything he'd like—like luxury cruises, dinners with friends, and impromptu vacations.

Quarterly Tax Drama: The Expensive Lesson You Can Avoid |
From our BiggerPockets Money Facebook group, a listener shares her costly mistake:
"Sharing my mistake so we can learn together... My husband and I did not work W2 jobs most of 2024. We still had passive income, and I sold a rental property... It seems we still did not have enough withheld throughout the year and now may owe a penalty. I wasn't aware taxes would potentially be due quarterly."
I learned this lesson at 17 with contractor income. If you have income without tax withholding, you'll likely need to pay quarterly estimated income taxes. It's time to talk to your tax planner! |
